Prunus x cistena is a hybrid cross between P.pumila and P.cerasifera Atropurpurea. It is a deciduous shrub growing from 7 to 10 feet in height, with a lesser spread. The foliage is an intense red-purple and keeps its color over the summer. The fragrant flowers are single and pink, appearing after the leaves have developed, mid to late spring. The fruits are purplish black. A very hardy plant, zone 2 to 8.
