This disease resistant crab has especially good foliage retention during summer. In spring the foliage emerges reddish-maroon maturing to dark green. Red buds open to pinkish-red flowers followed by dark red-purple, persistent fruit. It blooms later than most crabs. The bark is a glossy dark red with numerous prominent lenticels, and the fruit does not drop. An upright tree that matures to a rounded shape. Disease resistant to scab, fire blight, cedar-apple rust and mildew.
