Plant Type: Hostas

Blue-green with gold stripes between veins and some gold mottling. It is a very popular breeding plant despite its slow growth. This plant was the breakthrough for variegated seedlings of the future. This reached a bidding price of $3000 at auctions. Dorothy Benedict was made famous because of a special hosta named for her and hybridized by her husband, Dr. Herb Benedict. The margins are smooth. The flowers are nearly white with purple markings. It often has variegated leafy bracts. It is fertile. It grows slowly and is still a very desirable breeder.

This “large” selection is a 4-5 year old plant with multiple shoots. These are also hand-selected, to ensure the greatest display of leaf variegation.
