    Also known as the Blackberry Lily, this is a close cousin to the familiar bearded Iris. It forms a low clump of green sword-shaped leaves, with taller stems of cup-shaped bright golden-yellow flowers, speckled with orange. Attractive pods heads appear later, which split open to reveal clusters of black seeds. Seed pods make unique dried flowers for arrangements. Attractive to butterflies. Clumps should be divided every 3 to 4 years in the spring. Leaves are sometimes attacked by the Iris Borer, particularly in Eastern North America. Clean up old leaves in the fall and dispose.

    Growing & Maintenance Tips:

    Plant Belamcanda in full sun and well-drained soil. It especially detests soil that is wet in winter. This plant varies in height depending on the soil conditions. When grown in poor, dry soil, the height of the flower stalks will be about 24". However, if the soil is rich and moist, they can grow up to 48" tall and will require staking. A heavy layer of mulch is suggested for northern winters. For best results, divide in early spring.
