Go Back Arborvitae Lemon Burst

Thuja occidentalis 'RutThu3'
Rock Garden Icon

Plant Type: Conifer Shrubs, Conifer Trees

This moderately sized arborvitae has a broadly conical form and tight habit. The yellow new growth stays yellow through summer when grown in full sun. Like our other new Thuja introductions, Lemon Burst® was bred in Georgia and grows very well there. Happily, it doesn’t mind cold winters either, surviving -33°F in Minnesota in January 2019 without any winter burn. The same winter-damaged other selections of Thuja occidentalis, some severely. The foliage takes on lovely orange tones in the North during winter. Resistant to Passalora/Cercospora needle blight. Bred by Dr. John Ruter at the University of Georgia.
